General
Over the last few years, we at MOST have seen customers looking to move legacy mainframe applications to the flexible, scalable, and cost-effective environment of the cloud. The advantages of moving to the cloud are:
Scalability – Cloud storage and resources are virtual and can be adapted in real time according to necessity.
Cost Saving – Cloud infrastructure enables usage of computer power based on actual application’s demand which leads to cost saving.
Up to Date – Software and hardware are constantly updated in the background.
Flexibility – In a changing world the ability to make high level changes without the need to coordinate them into a rigid infrastructure makes all the difference. The flexibility of the cloud also makes access possible from anywhere and from any platform.
Leverage New Technologies – Ability to adapt to cloud-native technologies
Why MOST
MOST offering of mainframe re-hosting or conversion to the cloud gives the customer the ability to utilize many of the cloud’s benefits.
We have been delivering innovative solutions for many customers seeking to modernize their legacy applications. These solutions transform legacy applications to a broad range of technologies on the cloud or on-premises.
Note that MOST has no preference as to the vendor of the cloud chosen by the customer.
What We Offer
The process of moving mainframe applications to the cloud
Migration to the cloud is a strategic change to the organization from a technological level and from a human resource perspective, and as such can be costly and risky.
We recommend customers to take the lowest risk approach and either re-host the applications or automatically convert them to the cloud without changing its principal structure and functionality.
Re-hosting – Moving entire mainframe applications and data to the cloud in its original format with minimum change to the code. This solution requires a 3rd party enterprise server. MOST’s tools may be used to convert certain components that cannot run under the new platform such as Assembler language. For more information regarding Re-hosting please go to Re-Hosting page.
Automatic conversion – Using MOST tools and methodology customer’s applications can be automatically converted to modern computer languages and databases on the cloud. This solution transforms the application into 3-tier architecture while keeping its business functionality intact. For more information on code conversion and data migration please go to Code-Conversion page.
The diagram below illustrates the transformation from legacy application into cloud architecture. Customers have the option to create macro services as part of the migration process. After migration completion customers may further create micro services.
Upon completion of the migration to the cloud and when the applications are up and running in production the advantages of the cloud can be utilized. The customer can make further enhancements to enjoy additional benefits of the cloud-native technologies.
The above diagram illustrates a modernized application after being migrated to the cloud alongside the original legacy application on the mainframe. The microservices are marked with dotted lines to indicate future development.
