Platform Rehosting

MOST Technologies, a global leader in legacy modernization, is in a unique position to address the needs of organizations with investment in mainframe application assets.

Organizations with application assets currently running on mainframe environments are continually looking for ways in which to cut costs of IT operations. The rehosting of the mainframe application environment to UNIX, Windows or Linux has proved to be an effective step in cutting costs for many organizations.

Rehosting typically provides for moving the relevant applications from the mainframe operating environment to a UNIX/Windows/Linux based operating platform and providing the application with the equivalent operating environment and supporting services to replace that of the mainframe. With MOST's past experience in both mainframe and open systems, MOST's OnTarget technology and MOST's project methodology – MOST is well positioned to address customers' needs with respect to rehosting mainframe applications and to ensure their smooth transition from one operating environment to another. MOST has a major focus on projects of Adabas/Natural rehosting, where MOST can bring its years of experience with these platforms into action and conduct the rehosting project within few months.

Key to the success of rehosting is the site mapping process that identifies all the components of the operating environment that need to be rehosted – application elements, database migration, security, job scheduling, printing, system utilities, 3rd party software products are part of the inventory that needs to be mapped to equivalent functionality on the target platform. OnTarget and its repository related capabilities serve the process of site mapping and planning so to ensure that all items comprising the mainframe operating environment will be mapped to the target environment.

Thereafter the use of migration and conversion tools relevant to the inventory at hand will oversee the process and serve to reduce risk in the rehosting process. Finally the use of automated tools to handle the testing of rehosted application will serve to ensure quality deliverables and minimum disruption to end users operating the system.
