Migrate NATURAL ADABAS
When undertaking a Natural/Adabas migration project MOST’s process goes well beyond database design, data migration and code generation. MOST’s OnTarget technology automates the collection of processes that are critical to the success of your Natural/Adabas migration project, to include:
Database Design - OnTarget automatically designs a relational data model, building a normalized RDBMS data model which can be easily fine-tuned by the customer.
Data Migration - OnTarget automatically produces the DDLs for the creation of the RDBMS tables and generates the programs that migrate the Adabas data to the RDBMS tables.
Natural to COBOL and Java conversion – OnTarget provides for the automated and rapid reengineering of Natural to Java and to COBOL, producing a 3-layer architecture. Such architecture provides a foundation for the integration of new technologies, with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability for on-going application modification.
COBOL/Adabas to COBOL/RDBMS conversion – For COBOL programs that access Adabas through a pre-compiler, OnTarget separates the business logic and data access layers and generates a Data Access Layer (DAL) for DB2 access. This provides the foundation for efficient maintenance and continued database evolution.
JCL/PROCS Modification - OnTarget’s JCL/PROCs Converter provides for the automated and controlled modification of JCL batch invocation from Natural-COBOL/Adabas to COBOL/DB2 invocation.
Refresh Mechanism –This mechanism dramatically reduces “code-freeze” periods. Maintenance work can continue on the Natural system concurrent to migration activities. When testing of the migrated code is nearing completion, OnTarget will perform an automated “refreshing” of the system, incorporating changes made to the original Natural programs since project start.
Co-existence for multi-phase implementation - At times, migration projects are conducted in multiple implementation phases, during which time some applications have been migrated and others not. OnTarget generates co-existence bridges that serve the operational interaction between converted and non-converted code and migrated and non-migrated data.
